Sticks and stones and all that.
Yes, words can hurt.
They can also heal and soothe.
Something said to you.
Supportive. Encouraging. Compassionate.
Also the tone.
And the context — you cannot have context free words (comedian Stewart Lee talks about this…).
Can you think of a time when someone spoke a word, or words that made you feel better.
Those words you heard and your body systems interpreted as creating safety, comfort.
And you felt it.
Now thinking about that time, you feel can feel it.
Or words you have read. Or heard on a radio show or podcast or somewhere else.
Which words have a positive effect on you?
They resonate and give you hope.
With chronic pain, there is great hope.
