Why conventional logic doesn't work for chronic pain
Conventional logic means you follow the same path as everyone else. As if everyone is the same and at the same point.
~ Rory Sutherland, in Alchemy: the magic of original thinking in a world of mind-numbing conformity
You are not the same as everyone else is the first stumbling block with this thinking.
You are not at the same point as everyone else is the second.
You are unique and where you are.
This is where you must be met, and move forward from there.
Your needs must lead the way.
These are your needs to be met.
They may need clarification.
Chronic pain tells you there are needs to be met.
What are they?
Through caring conversations they become apparent.
Meeting your needs in practical ways, is the way forward.
Not following a pre-determined path, or being told what you need.
This is your life to shape.
The path forward is not linear.
Protocols assume linear.
Week 1 this, week 2 that etc.
No.
There is only this moment.
Specific questions enable you to self-coach:
What are my needs right now?
What is the best form of exercise right now?
How can I meet my needs right now?
The quality of your decisions determine the quality of your life.
Do this… consequence.
Do that… consequence.
Is this decision helping me make my way towards my picture of success?
Our role as healthcare professionals is to guide and support you as you follow your path, dealing with the challenges, building health, and achieve success.
